sidaways cake???
    #466069 - 11/21/01 09:40 PM (22 years, 4 months ago)

Has anyone ever tried to lay their cakes sideways using perlite humidification as opposed to standing them upright??
Wouldn't this increase the surface area close to the perlite....cause most pins usually start near hte base..close to the perlite correct?
Thanks

That's pretty much the only way I set them in now.It allows me to fit many more cakes in the container. It works fine,I don't know if it increases the number of pins though.

did you say thats the way you do it to fit more cakes?
I thought standing them upright would increease the number of cakes that you could fit.
Thanks for reply.

if you are using 1/2 pint jars i don't think it will make much of a difference. if you use pint jars you can cut them i half long way and put on damp verm or perlite to increase water absorbtion.

I use wide mouth half-pint jars.If I stand them upright, you know like they are still in the jar,the bottoms are fatter and take up more space than when I put them on their side.

I thought the bottom of the cake (while in the jar) was smaller than the top.

The bottom is fatter(takes up more surface area) than the sides.
