 Question on FC tools...

I found a perfect Sterlite container for a fruiting chamber and I want to remove the inner portion of the lid and attatch plexiglass or plastic or something to let light through. This plastic is TOUGH, and so far no knives or saws have been any help. What should I use to cut this square out?

You could always just heat up a piece of metal until its red hot so you can just melt your way through. Be wary of the fumes.

when ive had to cut wholes in lid for diff setups i get a drill and make a whole so i can fit atleast the tip of a razor in then follow my outline ive made on the lid.. make sure you use a new razo it makes 1000% diffrence.. and if that fails, i get out my wood burning tool, or my dremel.. then i drill my wholes in my plexy glass and lid and put some calking down and pop rivit the glass in place..

Does your Sterilite container have clear, translucent sides and a colored, opaque top?
If so there's no need to make a window in the top.

yes it does but I plan on getting a black plastic trashbag and covering up the sides. I want all the light coming from the top only...I want my mushrooms to all stand straight up.

couple methods that might work for you...
if you or your friends have access to any of these.
heavy duty box knife.
skil saw
drill a hole...then use a jig saw
drill a hole...then use a sawzall.
soldering iron...melt the plastic. <--one I'd never do though.
air tool with a cut off wheel. <--method I have used in the past.
dremel tool.

that is true but then your mushrooms will grow in all kinds of crazy directions.. the reason for having light only come in from the top of the container is so that the mushrooms know witch way is up. it wont hurt them or anything just youll have mushrooms laying on your casing ect..

The two most useful tools in my house as far as any mushroom work is considered is my Leatherman and my soldering iron.

soldering guns work better than soldering irons. Heavy duty al foil or pieces cut out of soda/beer cans make great tips so you don't fuck up your tip.
