Contaminated WBS/ pls help
    #4658576 - 09/14/05 08:06 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Man I was mad last night. 10 days ago i knocked up 10 pt jars of WBS with a new lipa yai syringe. All of them seem to have green mold growing on the top. Is it possible that the syring was bad? I also made some honey LC. they look great! little floaters all over the place. This was also the first time i used coffee in my soak ... and did a simmer and seap rather than 24hr soak. Could any of these prosses have been my problem?

you say the green is on top, how did you set up the jars innoc holes and/or vents? open holes, taped w/micropore tape, tyvek, or polyfil?

none of the contam was at the innoc points? was the lc made from the same syringe?

:peace:

Inoculated the jars through a single hole.. lid had tyvek under lid... no polyfill. the mold was on the top so.... i shook them once when i first inoculated them. had good luck with the tyveck on my last set of jars. one thing though i did noticec that i got the tyvec from a friend this time its construction grade.... the last time i cut up an old tyveck paint suit and it did have a totally diff texture to it.

ok so the tyvek was under the lid, did it get wet? if it gets wet contams can work their way right through it.
if the contam is on top after innoc and shaking then it was not the syringe, they got in post innoc.

as far as the diff between the suit and construction grade tyvek, this should explain the difference for ya.

It is possible that the tyveck got wet durring the PC prossess. I'll try again being more careful. Don't think these are saveable luckly like i said my LC looks good .... i'd of hated to have totally wasted a new strain syringe.

it could have gotten wet during pc'ing, did you have any foil over the tops of the jars? chances are though it dried out before you innoc'd, it dries pretty quickly while they are cooling.
keep an eye on your lc as well, hope it doesn't turn on ya.
best of luck on your next round

What exactly am i looking for in my LC. looks clearish yellow( used honey) and havs string like floaters all over. has a few black specs too but i believe i saw them in the syringe... i assume it was just spore clumps.
