I was text-chatting and someone I was arguing with told me my city and state as a way to intimidate me. Can the ISPs of people on text chat be easily ascertained, or did this person have spacial privileges? Thanks.

The someone you were arguing with probably pasted your IP address into the ripe.net database. Just use proxy server.

People's ISPs can be easily generated. It's your online name. This ISP tells you the location of the server, which will tell you the city. Paranoid? Surf ananymously through software or a website.

You cannot "generate" my isp. you can find it. I want to know if there is an easy way to find the isps of people on a text chat. If there is not an easy way, then I will start to suspect that the shroomery is not a safe place for the exchange of ideas.

Thanks. By generate I mean to find through software or code. People post pictures of each other on here, and so far, to my knowledge, no one has gotten busted.

As I already said, if you're feeling uneasy try using an anonymous surf program or a website (such as http://www.anonymizer.com/ ) to do it through.
