Hello everyone, today I went out in search of A. Muscaria. After a bit of searching I found many Amanitas, and what appears to be A. Muscaria ( a confirmation would be helpful). I also came across some white amanitas which resembled the muscaria but were all white with white spots, They seemed to be more infested so I didn't pick any of them to bring back. Sorry about the photos! My camera was being bery incooperative and those were the only photos it would produce
Also, I don't have a fan handy..what is the best way to dry the caps?

Here is what I read, Put them Ina curved glass container and set Ur oven to 185 degrees F. Then cook em, a liquid will come out and thats the active ingredient so repor it on the shroom and wallah O yeah and leave the oven cracked after its preheated to let steam out, thats what I read.

Yes, those indeed are Amanita muscaria, and very nice ones. Usually I simply dry and grind them:

Is it true that they're poisonous when eaten raw?Do you have to dry them before eating them? And if so WHY?What's the difference? And why do some people say that experimenting with mascara can be deadly?

Hmmm...it said that Amanita's from the Northern areas are the most potent. It's common for Amanta's to grow in cold clients .... They were the only mind altering drug used by the Shamans of Siberia for ages, most of there history comes form that area.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a couple questions regarding the preparation of these muscaria...
My oven goes to 250* at the lowest setting..I'm guessing that this is most likely too high to dry them at?
Right now I have them under a fan. By airdrying am I missing the only chance I have to turn the ibotenic acid into muscimol? I have access to a dehydrator, but I'm not sure if I should even bother airdrying them if it is inferior to the oven method.
Thanks alot,
AKSE

Yep, there are many Russian texts about it. As I said earlier in a related topic about A.Muscaria, be VERY careful with them and always do it in a safe place (home is best) with a trusted friend isn't eating mushrooms and being ready to help you.

Just crack the door of the over.....wedge it open with a dishtowel....adjust the amount it's open, to adjust the temp. Lowest setting with the door cracked open about a inch works great for drying.
