joe satriani and steve vai are great choices, dont forget eric johnson tho and the Gorillaz (Self-Title & Demon Days). the songs Dare and Feel Good Inc by Gorillaz (Demon Days CD) were the songs i listened to during my best trip ever.

i see a few bands that i will look into but i am not looking for bands like shpongle, any kind of techno, or classic rock like the doors. I don't mean to sound like an asshole but did anyone read my post? When i say tripping music i mean music that really makes you think.

Obviously you are looking for lyrics here.
Incubus is pretty deep consistently for 5 albums.
30 Seconds to Mars is pretty out there.
Many people would say Coldplay, but I don't like them.
Evanescence has some pretty deep, good trippin' songs, especially 'Hello'.
I know these are all pretty mainstream...but they are huge talents. Talent is pretty obvious when you are tripping anyway.

just listen to trance songs that have dialogue about intelligent life, or being a mortal. I love those dialogue parts.

Are you stupid? Classic rock has more intelligence than any other kind of music around. The Doors are amazing, as are Pink Floyd. You, my friend, know nothing about music.

sherman... some people like onions. and some people don't. to say somebody knows nothing about music because they enjoy something else... is way too republican (haha, jk for all you republicans out there). but it's way close-minded.
anyways, seems like you might be into Saul Williams. The guy is a concious hiphop poet. Atmosphere is pretty good, but can suck sometimes, lol.
The best I can recommend is The Herbaliser. They have mad talent, and diverse music.
One track by the Nujabes, called "Battlecry." It's from the anime samurai champloo, and it's definitely nice.
and just for the record, i know some very smart republicans, much smarter than some pseudo-liberals out there.

You can go ahead and like different music but when he says that classic rock doesn't have any kind of intelligence in it, it's a very ignorant comment. Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles, The Doors, Buffalo Springfield, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival all have very intelligent messages in their songs. They are also superior to any current music in their instrumentals as well.

what are you talking about? i did not say that classic rock doesn't have any intelligence, i have no idea where you got that. I happen to love classic rock, Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands. I believe i even said that in one of my posts.
Saul Williams sounds interesting, that is exactly what i am looking for; I will defiantly check him out.
XUL, can you give me some names of bands/songs?
Never thought about listening to some bands like incubus, that is a good idea.

if you want instrumental thinking music, I recommend indian music, Ravi Shankar's sitar works are great music. Also check out minimalist composer Philip Glass. Also check out some of Brian Eno's ambient stuff.
for rock, I like Radiohead (even though they can be kind of dark, it's good), Bj?rk (her voice is something alien, yet beautiful when tripping), Sonic Youth is interesting, Ween is rediculous, and Frank Zappa is a genius. I like these musics when I trip

i'd also recommend orko the sycotik alien. concious hiphop with fantastic beats.
and if you can find any wookiefoot, you'll fall in love. the album trackerjacks is the one i've heard with the craziest songs.
you can find clips of wookiefoot here: http://www.wookiefoot.com/music.cfm
check out mushroom jazz on the trackerjacks album ;-)
also, tabla beat science. no lyrics, but seriously rhythmic drum sounds. might not be what you're looking for though.

Some of my favorite music to listen while tripping is: Cevin Key, Blutech, Download, Boozoo Bajou, Younger Brother, Thievery Corporation, Ochre, Magic Sound Fabric, and that is just to name a few. Also, the soundtrack to Fantastic Planet.

Some of my best trips have been to Picture of Nectar by Phish and the new NIN cd, With Teeth. I really didn't expect NIN to be as good as it was to trip to due to the dark, isolated nature of the music but it was really really good.
