Infected psychotria - need urgent help.

I just noticed one of my psychotrias has some sort of pest  :thumbdown:

I don't have a camera available at the moment, but i'd like some help identifying the pest so i can take appropriate measures.

Ok so it is full of teeny little white dots, mostly on the undersides of the leaves.
There are also some bigger yellowish dots.
And some leaves have become kinda greasy/sticky on the uppersides.

Can you people tell which pest it is from this description?

I inspected it better and found the bigger yellowish/off-white dots are small bugs that move around. They aren't bigger than 0,5mm each.

I assume the smaller white specks are eggs.

I've moved the infected plant away from my other plants so that it doesn't spread.

Think i can kill these guys with a soap, pepper and tobacco brew or will i need to get chemical with it?

I browsed through that site and came to the conclusion that they are probably aphids.

They look like the pics there, and do match the description.
It also says its common for them to secrete a honey-like substance which i believe is the sticky residue i found on some of the leaves.

The motionless whitedots are probably nymphs, not eggs.

One thing is off though. They say adults are 3-4mm long. Mine are at most 1mm long. Can there be any smaller kinds of aphids?

Maybe they are not adults yet.

look into scales maybe. I noticed they do that or meally bugs.

Doesn't look like the pics i've seen of scales or mealy bugs tho.

I removed the bulk of the bugs with a swab soaked in 50:50 ethanol:water, than misted the entire plant and the upper layer of soil with a pepper + detergent spray. The whole atmosphere in my kitchen became unbreathable :shocked: Left it to take effect for 30 mins and than rinsed all it very well.

No sign of any bugs at the moment. Now let's see if they keep away from it...

just use neem oil. works very well. also the sticky traps are cool. Lady bugs are overkill and they die in my opinion.

I killed an aphid infestation with safer's soap. You have to hit them every day for a couple weeks and hit the undersides of all leaves. After that, just watch them and start the spraying again if you see even one bug.

Soap works great IMO, not to mention pyrethrins are a good one for aphids. Make sure to get all that honeydew off the leaves as that is just going to invite some fungus :smile:

Stonehenge - If you just see one bug, just pick it off, there is no point in spraying something needlessly.
