Suspended Cakes...
    #4649257 - 09/12/05 07:30 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Maybe this has been thought and shot down before, but I tried several searches and found nothing like what I am thinking.

Would it be beneficial to suspend cakes from the "ceiling" of a fruiting chamber to maximize surface area? So, there would be 8 or something cakes floating in the chamber, like hanging from strings, with a layer of perlite on the bottom.

That also begs the trippy question, what would happen if you suspended a cake in zero gravity and let shrooms grow on it?? Would you have a sphere of shrooms?? That would be fucking cool.

Also, what would happen if you grew mushrooms in varying pressures? Okay, I am a little off subject, but the suspension question is the important one.

It's been done before and works ok. There's only so much nutes/moisture in a cake however, so the more mushies that form, the smaller each one will be. It really didn't help total yields, imo.

I'll bet you could 'simulate' the zero gravity thing by putting a skewer through your cake and letting a BBQ motor turn it slowly during fruiting. Just a thought.

That would be cool. If i had the means id test that pressure theory. Somone should try that.

Soda bottle, what a good idea...

Hmmm.  Maybe you could rig an auto air compressor to some kind of airtight enclosure.  Would more pressure make them stronger or kill them?  More pressure would mean denser air and more concentrated oxygen right?  But how would you do air exchange...

Humans operate better at sea level so why not shrooms?  Time to do some stoner blueprints  :rotfl:

Ha, this isn't an advanced topic because of my low post count I bet. That little number is so retarded, it's like an online popularity contest.

Yeah sometimes they pin on the bottom and you have to try to lay it down so that all thin pins can mature anyway. I think it might be a good idea.
