Lime... ???

i've been told that adding lime to a coco coir casing layer is a good idea to reduce the pH and help prevent contams. i'm a bit confused about the exact type of lime i need to get.

what kind of place would sell what i need (garden centre? chemist?), and what is it called exactly?

It?s called LIMESTONE or CHALK (Chemicaly CaCO3).

Garden center and a chemist were both good guesses.

nobody said anything about 'calcium oxide.' CaCO3 is calcium carbonate and is basic (basic meaning that it is a base not an acid) in the pH spectrum and lowers your asing;s pH which is generally slightly acidic and increases in pH as mycellium excretes its natural shit. the base helps to neutralize the substance.

basic: pH > 7
acidic: pH < 7
