PS2 Modding
    #4647050 - 09/11/05 07:53 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Yeah, I'm getting some money soon and have decided to Mod my PS2 - to play my backup copies of games that got scratched/fucked up..

Has anyone here modded their PS2 or know someone that has?  I've looked at a bunch of chips and whatnot but I'm still not sure what to get...

IS there a way to do this withought opening my PS2? I doubt it, but still have to ask..

SOO, what is the easiest/cheapest way to mod your PS2?

Thanks

first of all. here's some tips.

Dont go to ps2ownz.com or ps2nfo.com

Biggest fucking scam you'll ever find.

Now, if you have the small version....you could always....get an old one so you dont have to mod anything.

If your not REAL proficient at soldering, don't even attemp to install a chip that has to be soldered in. I've spent a lot of time fixing peoples PS2s that thought it would be easy. It isn't.
Your best bet is a replacement top. You can install it with just a screw driver. It allows you to swap discs easily and comes with the swap discs you need.
A friend has one and he says it works great and was easy to install. Must be easy... his favorite tool is a hammer
Plus, I'm pretty sure they are undrer $40.00. Not a bad price.

Have fun.

I'm not understanding the purpose of the mod??? I have a slimline PS2... what would a mod chip do for it? Does anyone have a good link about it or anyone have a second to "inform" me? Thanks.

"Modding" allows you to bypass the game systems internal securities, allowing you to play burnt "backup copies" of your games.

Ahhhh... ok. So how would you burn them in the first place? I didn't think your pc could read a PS2 disk unless you bought special hardware?

Same process as backing up a DVD, use DVD Decryptor, Alcohol 120%, Nero, etc etc.

Ok, my question is will a standard CD-RW drive work with some software, or do I need a DVD-R drive?
