1. Download "Spybot search and destroy" (hell of alot better than Adaware)
2. Download "Google toolbar" for internet explorer. ( thats if your using IE, i highly recommend you dont use IE, download "firefox" or" opera" internet browser which include a free pop up blocker and tabbed browsing)
3. Download "Zone Alarm" (the free edition) this is one of the best firewall programs out there for its price (free)
4. Download "AVG antivirus" this is agood little antivirus program which is free.
The links you ask, just try a handy little program called GOOGLE and search and you shall find.

Look up Bittorrent, I suggest using Azureus. Between isohunt.com and torrentspy.com you should be able to find:
Webroot's SpySweeper (w/crack) Pop-Up Stopper Pro (w/crack) Norton Internet Security/Firewall (w/crack) Norton Antivirus 2005 (w/crack) or AntiVir, a free german virus scanner that's better.

I have different recommendations:
For adware: Microsoft anti-spyware For popups: Firefox has plenty of popup blocker extensions Firewall: dont waste your memory on software firewall, just get a good router. I use SMC Barricade. Anti-virus: Agree with AVG

> For adware: Microsoft anti-spyware
I still find it ironic that rather than fix their crap OS, they instead release products to fix the symptoms of their crap OS. Of course, when the entire design of the system is broken, there really isn't much more that can be done than help mitigate the symptoms.
> Firewall: dont waste your memory on software firewall, just get a good router
I will read "good router" as "hardware firewall" and agree with you whole heartedly. Software based firewall's are a joke; kind of like using a screen door to keep people out of your home. Sure, the screen door may keep 100% of the honest people out, but the first 'bad guy' that wants in is going to walk in as if it weren't there.

Don't bother removing spyware if you're just going to install Google Toolbar afterward, it's one of the worst pieces of spyware out there. And make sure you don't let google send you cookies either.
The suggestion to use Firefox is right on. There's no excuse for continuing to use IE.

Actually when you download Google Toolbar it asks you if you 1. want to be involved in the feedback program that sends back information to google. or 2. Opt out and use it without ANY information being sent. SO depending on how you install makes the outcome, SOmewhat like how Kazaa or Ares asks you to install 3rd party software. Just read before you click next. "One of the worst pieces of spyware out there." ??? Where have you been hiding? LOL

with IE, you'll have the same problem over - eventually. try firefox - you wont go back once you get used to it & you'll wonder what took you so long to try it.

Yep. I can't even use IE anymore. I've resorted to carrying portable firefox around with me on a flash drive.
