Amanita Muscaria ?
    #4645094 - 09/11/05 09:51 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I went in mushroom hunting today, hoping to find some amanitas. It is relative dry here so i didnt expect to find any, but i found some shrooms that im not really sure if they are what i think they are...

Here are some pics...

The red spots on the caps made me think that theese shrooms could me muscarias ... If not, are they pantherinas maybe ?

Thanks for your help.

Those are *not* A. muscaria, and they are probably not A. pantherina either. The red spots make me suspect they are close to A. rubescens. Without microscopic examination it is unlikely that an accurate ID could be made.

Why do you have them in a glass of water?

Happy mushrooming!

Don't think you have Muscaria there. Might help to take them out of the water.. we need to see the base of the stem well to try and identify amanitas.

I have them in water because my mom used to put Macrolepiota procera mushrooms in water so that their caps would open completely... I thought that would help my dried out shrooms...

Is this Rubenescen psychoactive, i mean, is it useful ?

Not psychoactive but some class it as a good edible. Roger Phillips classes its edibility as poisonous/suspect.

Edible when cooked but poisonous if eaten raw; the water it is cooked in should be discarded, best to avoid it altogether as it does contain dangerous toxins.

I've eaten a rubescens before, it wasn't very good, didn't make me sick, but it really wasn't worth the effort of cooking it, didn't taste like much either
