Alrighty, so how important ARE air stones/bubblers.....?
    #4643351 - 09/10/05 09:36 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

....as opposed to just fanning.

Do NOT get me wrong. I completely understand the need for CO2 and whatnot, but has anyone ever made a controlled environment and fanned one box and let the air pump control the other?

I'm just trying to figure out how much of a difference an air pump/stones/wands REALLY makes. How much does it increase yield, etc?

Any input on this subject? Is it worth the hastle?

-Tokey

Depends. For cakes or casings?

You dont need one as long as you can fan 4-5 times a day religiously

For both. Cakes now, eventually casings.

I do work during the day 8 hours...sometimes 10-12....Weekends off. So should I invest in the air supplies?

Noise is a definate issue as well.  Even so though, how REQUIRED is fanning 4 times a day?

Fanning is very important, if noise is an issue with the pump get a nice one, the cheapies are noisy.

Set it up on a timer also, if you run it 24/7 it can reduce humidity.

You should invest in the Air Pump, its worth the ten bucks. My foaf just set one up using a dual output pump, with a T connection to make them go into one hose. Then you can pickup a tall storage container for keeping food in, look for one about 3 inches in diameter with a screw in top that seals well. Then buy a small air stone, some sponge, and some glue.
Put two holes (melting works well) in the top of the container lid, put the hose through, if you get the holes nice, you wont need any kind of seal. Make one of the hoses go almost to the bottom, and put the air stone on that, the other one should just go in the lid about an inch. Cut the sponge so it will hang off the lid and go inside the container, glue it to the lid, let it dry. Voila, humidifier, if your using a rubber-maid, just let the fish pump run 24/7.

That's a deep kiss too, like the Europeans. You know, the French, they have to unhinge their jaw to show love.
