Sparassis Crispa:

hmmmm. cauliflower.

I have been out of town for the last couple of weeks, so I'm just getting back into the swing of of the season. from what I can see out there it looks like it must have rained hard about 10-12 days ago and then stayed relatively warm and dry after that.

Today, I also found two pounds of chanterelles,
one pound of black trumpets, and two boletus edulis.
My usual trumpet spots have stalled a bit since their first flushing.
found the others today in deep shaded wood, some were overgrown, but most were at their peak. same goes for the chants.
I didn't take pictures though, they were gone before i made it home.

Also saw a couple of hedgehog pins, but nothing substantial. Have yet to see any bears head either.
cheers- norm

Took some people out on a forray yesterday, Here is some of what they found

not Sure about this bolete. Dense, flesh bruised butter yellow. but mostly white. Smell mild, pore surface cream yellow. No distinctive reticulation. though veining present. I have more info if it is not obvious

what happens when a black trumpet and chanterelle have a baby

two species of hedgehog the large ones were five+ inches across, (Hydnum Umbilicatum and H.Repandum

Nice!

I cloned some Sparassis Crispa that I found in Sherwood Forest onto agar, looks like a little white spikey porcupine lol

They're rated as choice edibles in the books. They don't grow here in Colorado so I've never had the chance to try one.

Happy mushrooming!

Hey I live in NH and was wondering if you have ever found any actives worth eating?

I've been looking for a while and haven't found much of anything.

No, I didn't eat it. I'm drying it to put into a mix that I have been putting together all year. I might give it away or trade it at the end of the season. Maybe a contest or something.

Cauliflower mushroom has a very distinct smell. very sweet almost like honey backed with a little spice. not mushroomy at all. While it's taste is somewhat mild, definitley a choice edible.

Skater: You have a better chance filling your belly, than your mind.
I found a type of gymnopilus yesterday, but not spectabilis. (plus why would anyone want to eat a pound of that nasty bitterness)
Last year I also found Pann subbs, but didn't know what they were at the time. I do know that they were growing in and around very large groupings of Galerinas (DEADLY) and figured fuckit, I would rather live.
P. Caruelipes is also an option, however finding enough for an experience is quite frankly futile.
Your best chance of finding reliable actives in NH grow in basements and closets.
enjoy the weekend -norm

Wow, so hunting for actives in NH could be deadly. Oh well. I guess I'll have to stick to buying to enjoy experiences.

Thanks for your info.
