strange cake occurances. Need Help Plz!!
    #4642730 - 09/10/05 05:49 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys.

I have a bunch of cakes that are in the fruiting stage. problem is a couple of them are acting a bit strange. Example one of the is producing a very fluffy almost cottony mycelium and I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing. another seems to be producing the flesh of a mushroom but not the caps. Now this one is very strange i see chunks of beige flesh but no mushroom top. think it is maybe a mutation? anything would help. thanks.

the cottony mycelium could very well be cobweb mold throw it out or isolate it away from the rest or your cakes, but i would jsut throw it out (pic please). and could very well be a mutant

Diff strains have diff texture mycellium. Seperate it if it makes you feel safer but I wouldn't throw it out yet.

fluffy cottony mycellium can result from a high rH. the rest sounds like mutants. have you been spraying lots of lysol or any other air sanitizer?

Dont tell someone to chunk their stuff without knowing for shure what the problem is dude, We do need a pic to diagnose the problem but its probably just a lysol mutation

I had an invitro jar lately that did the same thing with the capless fruitbody. I only had one but it basically grew this big nipple looking thing, and stalled out, still hasnt rotted or anything though even after like a week of sitting in their. Sometimes my cakes fluff up real good like your talking about after a dunk or with extreme humidity. Usually it means they are nice and moist. Cobweb should be a little bit different in color, almost a greyish color.
