All criticism aside, I think his thoughts on his UN speech are very telling.
This is a man who refused to return to the administration.
Does he still have credibility?

Wow, that article just raised my respect for him much higher.
Not only was he dead-on about the hurricane relief effort, but he even showed remorse for the WMD thing.

right on! I especially like this statement. ?These are people who don?t have credit cards; only one in 10 families at that economic level in New Orleans have a car. So it wasn?t a racial thing ? but poverty disproportionately affects African-Americans in this country. And it happened because they were poor,?

I got to meet Colin Powell when I was in college and was extremely impressed with him as an individual. It was amazing watching him handle the "anti-Powell" crowd that a neighboring school bussed in to disrupt his talk. He never got angry, he never got rude, but he certainly made the protesters look like fools.

Much of the faith I had in Powell prior to his UN speach has been restored. He is a human politician.
I'll still never vote for him for any political office because of his association with the Bush administration.

I would have had more respect for him if he had spoken up while still in office. I long had the feeling that he was conflicted bwteen his loyalty to the administration and his loyalty to "the people" when it comes to the truth.
In my mind, there is only ONE loyalty of a true leader and ONE loyalty of a scum-sucking beurocrat. He could not decide who who wanted to be.
As for Congress, just about the only man there who has any balls whatsoever is the ailing 80+ yo Byrd.

So this guy who is complicit in tricking the American people into a war which has killed over 10,000 human beings, ruined American credibility, squandered our resources etc., etc., etc. is a good guy because he criticizes the government a bit about hurricane relief?
He's an enemy of mankind and he will be until he permanently dissolves into eternity and realizes what his earthly vessel has done to set humans back.

Leary hit the nail on the head.
I believe the book "Plan of attack" mentions how important Powell selling out was in convincing people to support the war. Dan Bartlett called it "the Powell buy-in". If he'd had the balls to reject the pathetic so-called "intelligence" it would have made a big contribution to stopping the invasion.

I said that his thoughts on the speech were telling and asked if he had any credibility.
I didn't say he was a good guy.
I just think it's interesting that he's publically voicing dissatisfaction with what happened.
but, it's good to know how you really feel.
