...backing up websites?
    #4638279 - 09/09/05 04:36 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Greetings to all readers of this post.
I was wondering about backing up my website,
in case for some hypothetical reason my site were to go down
and all information were to be lost.
I have a forum on the site that we've collectively been inputting data into,
and it would be a tragedy if all our efforts we're deleted or lost somehow.
Mainly, i just have a bunch of images, music files, and general html i want to retain.

Whats the best way to make a back-up for all this? Most specifically,
backing up all the posts that have been made on the message-board.

In the control panel for my site,
there is a Backup option
that allows me to:
"Generate/Download a Full Backup"
"Download Today's Backup"
"Download a SQL DB Backup"
and "Download Alias/Filter Backup"

I'm unfamiliar with the backup process, so thats why i havent experimented with these options further.
My educated guess is that the "Download a SQL DB Backup", would be the option i would want for backing-up the Message board. There is a link called "ivbd1", which probably stands for invision board 1.

Any input on this from personal experience or knowledge would be most appreciated.
Apologies if i confused you somewhere in this rant.

Ok inside the control panel admin 'panel' there should be an option to back up the forum. I'm not sure if that's the panel you are talking about or not your host could give you one aswell. And just download all of them it's not going to hurt anything. an SQL DB Backup is what your forum will need. But I think you're forum admin panel has a much better way to do that. Sorry if that's hard to understand.

You need to backup all your files, wich can be done by making an archive, or simply by downloading them all in FTP.

then you need a database backup, wich is your SQL DB backup, be sure to include all tables, and table structure aswel as data.

Sounds like you have CpanelX, I use the same for my websites.

I just do generate a full backup and download that, and I also do mysql backup because mine has a large database.
