Pink Floyd Question (ATTN: Funksters)
    #4626809 - 09/06/05 06:33 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I am a member of a music forum on the net and asked the question below and got some interesting responses. I thought, hmmm, I bet The Shroomery could do better because, The Shroomer rocks! Well here is the 50 Million dollar question that I posted:

Yes, I know Pink floyd is neither funk nor jazz. The DVD 'live at Pompeii' the directors cut has the track 'echoes part 1.' about 10 minutes into the song they go into this kinda funk jam. which blows me away, especially the bass line and organ. On to my question, if anyone is familiar with what I am talkin about, could you recommend a band that has a sound somewhat close to that? or is that just Pink Floyds style. To me, it sounds funky, maybe not to y'all, but I am not familiar with funk/soul. So, am I asking an solvable question?
Which Pink Floyd do you prefer?
You may choose only one

Realistically Syd was pretty tight, and if you read one of the many books about how they got started, and became famous, it is obvious that Syd had a big impact on their song style and show. But lets be honest Piper is a very good album, but better then everything Pink Floyd did afterwards? Hardly.

i cant listen to what part youre talking about, and wether or not its 'funky' or not. but if you want to get into some funky funky shit, listen to some funkadelic. "Maggot Brain" and "Free Your Ass an Your Mind Will Follow" are some great albums. theyre a good band for someone who's already into classic progressive rock like pink floyd to introduce some funk to them, cause theyre also a psychedelic rock band.

but i dont know if thats what your looking for or not. Try some porcupine tree... They have a lot of echoes-y songs... try some of their longer songs. theyve got some funky stuff... and some space rock stuff, some metal stuff, a lot of progressive stuff. but im not sure youll find what youre looking for there. i have the DVD on my blockbuster que list so ill get it in a while... ill look for the part you were talking about and get back to you.

peace.

Check out the band Faust. Krautrock is basically Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa. They take it and fuck with a lot, but its still heavilly influenced by those 2 bands. Faust 4 is a good place to start, as its not as weird as the earlier albums.
