Why use perlite?
    #4637684 - 09/09/05 02:00 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I was originally going to use perlite humidification with a heating mat for my fruiting chamber. However wouldn't it just be easier and cheaper to use plain old h20 with my cakes places on some sort of rack above the water level?

No, perlite wicks tiny water droplets into the air, which creates humidity. Plain H2O2 won't. Unless you have your fruiting chamber in a very cold environment, I see no need for a heating pad.

In that case I'll stick with perlite. I live the the UK, plus It'll be nearing winter soon so I still reckon I need some form of heating.

The perlite will give you a better humidity if you just soak it, drain it and use it. Surface area is the key here, the perlite holds water on its surface in micropores allowing evap to occur at a much greater rate than if it were left soaking in water.

actually i think the best way to put this is that perlite provides CONSTANT humidity. You dont need perlite at all to keep humidity up in your chamber. If you have the ability to check in on your grow a lot all you need is just a spray bottle. Ive stopped using perlite and still maintain about 95-98% humidity just with misting the sides.
