PMP getting started. ?s
    #4637660 - 09/09/05 01:49 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

OK, one last check before i get this under way.
- Im using the PMP (I think like 60-70Quarts)
- Perlite humidity
- Air pump with 2 air stones

Right now I have the air stones sucktioned(sp?) to the side of the container so the perlite doesnt clog them... Is this good or bad? Do they need to be under the perlite?
I dont have any holes cut yet for CO2 to escape. Should I cut them right above the perlite level? How many and how big? Do I need to put coffee filters over the holes?
I heard people talking about polyfil filters. What is that? do i need it somewhere?
I plan on leaving the pump on 24/7. Ill have 11 B+ cakes sitting on their lids on the perlite. i have Oust and Lysol to keep clean. Humidity sensor inside.
Should I take any other precautions to prevent contams?

Am I forgetting any info? If I didnt mention it, I probably didnt do it. Thanks.

Hole towards the top. And polyfill is what they stuff, suffed animals w/. Coffee filter will work too. Well i think you want the air wants/stones to bubble in the watter im not sure if this matters but i tohught that with the air running thru the water it makes some sort of reaction (im not very scientific obviously). - One or two holes towards the top should do fine.

the bubble thing is a good question, as for the whole, I thought Co2 was heavier than air, so wouldnt i want the whole near the bottom? What do i do with the polyfill/coffee filter...?

The air stones should be under the perlite so that they wick up MOIST air and move the C02 UP from underneath. The perlite won't clog the stones and you can poke holes into the stones with a pin if they ever do get clogged. Adding holes for the C02 to escape shouldn't be necessary because it will be constantly moving and not settle in your terrarium and eventually find it's way out. Don't spray Lysol or Oust once you put your cakes in! You can get polyfil at walmart, kmart, arts and crafts type stores. It's used for pillow and bedding stuffing.

HERE is the original PMP tek that should explain everything in case you haven't seen the actual tek.

The polyfill you would stuff in the hole to make a filter. And the coffee filters would be placed over top of the hole. As far as Co2 Im not sure, because I personally dont have a hole in mine. My lid does not fit my pod so I duct tape the hell out of it and in some places air is able to escape and it works for me.

polyfill is really cheap(craft dept. at wal-mart or an old pillow that you don't need anymore) lysol it before using...and i don't think you would need a coffee filter if you are using polyfill.

My lid fits perfect on the PMP with no cracks. So i have to have a hole. Anyone know where toput it? I guess Ill make it about dime sized.
I have also heard from other people that the air stones would do better on the sides. Thats what I hate about forums, I always get different answers.

Well, growing shrooms isn't always an exact science. People argue about substrates, light, temperature, humidity. Different things work for different people. If you follow the teks to a "T" you will succeed, otherwise they wouldn't be posted on this site as a tek. Once you get the tek down, then you can play around with it as you learn how everything works. Everyone has their own way of doing things, you will develop your own as well.

Dont get smart. I have read and reread that thread, but I have also seen the more experienced people(than you) post that CO2 is heavier and the holes should be near the bottom. The only reason I ask these questions is because I get contradicting answers

Post count and the length of membership don't = experience. How would you know my level of experience? :smirk: I have used PMP's before. You're the one asking questions.  I'm not getting smart. I'm telling you what works. Like I said, it wouldn't be archived on this site if it didn't work. Do it according to the tek to start, experiment once you have that down.
