why isnt my caseing layer colonizing right?
    #4635254 - 09/08/05 09:25 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I had my tub of b+ + h-poo 100% colonized last thursday, so i cased it. its about 5" of substrate and 1" of 50/50 (i hope to pull some monsters out of this mofo) i went on a 4 day drunk over labor day... and when i got back to checking on my shit late monday, there was just a little bit of myc peeking thru the very outside edge of the caseing layer, so i patched that on tuesday afternoon...

now there is more myc poking through the patched areas of my tub and still nothing in the middle... whats the deal? what should i do? i poked some holes in the aluminum foil on it and put a shirt over that to keep the light out so it doesnt fruit (i have problems with my caseings fruiting before i want them to) i was hoping more air would help this a little... but it hasnt as far as i can tell...

the caseing has been on there for 7 days... should i fruit it? i've been trying to get more even pinsets with no luck, i always get like 12 flushes but with just a handful of mushrooms each and i feel like im' wasting the potential of my big ass tubs of shit.... i want the sea of shrooms i've seen pictures of... somebody please give some info on what is going on and what i should do...

Same thing happened to me.  After 8 days I just put it in the FC and am hoping for the best.

I too would like an answer.

1" of casing is way to thick, i try to get by with 1/4" or 1/2" at the most

i thought that a caseing should be 1/4 as thick as the substrate... my substrate is like 5 inches thick so 1" is a modest estimate for how thick my caseing layer should be... i've had 1" 1/4 caseings be done in 6 days before... this one just seems to be taking a long time for some reason

1/4 as thick as the sub is just a general reference for beginners, never go 1" or more, experience has proven anywhere from 1/4-5/8th's is optimum even with subs as deep as 6 inches. I recommend subs never deeper than 3 inches as far as efficiency is concerned.

I have the same problem right now. My post earlier kinda explains it here . I just spawned a few more trays with hpoo and WBS, they should be done colonizing and ready for casing in about a week... hope it doesn't happen again.
