This is my first attempt to cultivate. I got my substrate jars from Mike O'logical today.
I am using B+ spores as I have heard they often put up the least resistance, especially with newbies.
I labled my jars...
And then put them back from whence they came.
And now the waiting game I suppose. My cheat sheet from PFjars says 12-14 days. I am leaving them in a room that stays between 75-80 degrees most of the time. At this point does light/dark matter?
Can't wait for the exciting part to start!

what's the temp there? might concider building an incubator, that's what i did. Needs to be about 80-86 farenheit. Two tubs bottom one with water and an underwater aquarium heater, second one on top the first. Works wounders, only problems i have is with regulating temperature, but my heater is cheap so i get what i pay for  . Room temp won't kill your babies though, just slows the process down nice and quick. at room temp it took my cakes about a month or more to fully colonize. With this incubator they are almost done in less than half that time. 
<edit> btw gave you 5 mushrooms, looks to me like you read the faqs and the stickies, something i don't see much in forums now-a-days..

see if you can get them up to 85 degrees for optimum speed of colonization. by the way i am a newbie too and i am just getting pins on my first casing. i didn't even bother with cakes, i just went straight to casing and that is my suggestion to you as well

Depends man, casings do bring the chance of contams into a much bigger focus. Personally i'd say he has alot of cakes going there from the pics, i'd recommend casing most of them and keeping some as cakes. I say this because if the casings go bad he'll have cakes to fall back on and be able to reap some of the fruits of his labors, plus he can grab spore prints from those cakes if his casings don't work out. But i'm a paranoid person that likes to play it safe

I put mine in a sterial tupperware tub, with a top in the dark closet,
and leave them alone.

I wouldn't do anything to keep them warm unless the temp in the room drops below 70...

Here is what I am working with now.
I guess those aren't looking too good. I am partly color blind, and it's hard to tell what's moist substrate colored and what's bad.

nope, looks to me like you have green mold. I would throw it out. Also the temp does make a huge difference. Having the temp in the mid 70's instead of the mid 80's could nearly double you colonization time! Good luck on your other jars!
