Something similar to Miles Davis - Bitches Brew?
    #4633039 - 09/08/05 07:10 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I've been listening to Miles Davis - Bitches Brew quite a lot in the past few weeks and I have been trying to find music that is similar but I can't seem to find anything. If anyone knows of anything, please post!

Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way" is another great work of jazz-rock fusion.

These are other great fusion bands: Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Pat Metheny Group, Medeski Martin & Wood, etc.

The other bands I've mentioned depart quite a ways from the Bitches Brew type of sound. Mahavishnu Orchestra would represent a virtuosic style between all the musicians and tight-ass interplay among the improvisations. Weather Report could qualify as having a more "up" sound. Birdland is a very popular tune by them, and you'd probably recognize the song. Pat Metheny Group might be closest to what you're looking for. I recommend "The Way Up" - a mind-blowing 70 minute epic of an almost orchestral style of improvisation. Medeski, Martin, & Wood are a jazz-funk fusion band so their sound is more based on grooves and blues/funk based harmony.

Definitely Mahavishnu Orchesrtra.

There's a song dedicated to John McLaughlin, the brains behind M. Orchestra, on Bitches Brew.

And get Medeski Martin and Wood's Uninvisible.
