Spanish and French police seized 2.8 tonnes of cocaine yesterday and arrested eight suspected members of a drug smuggling gang, authorities confirmed.
Of the arrested gang members seven were French and one a Spaniard.
The gang members transported the drug in yachts from Cuba to Morocco.
A police statement said the cocaine seizure was the biggest yet by French police.
Police also found weapons, pistol silencers, money, computers, jewellery and two sailing yachts.
The news comes after Dutch authorities - liasing with Spanish and French counterparts - seized a record 4.6 tonnes of cocaine worth an estimated street value of E220 million (?150 million) at Rotterdam port last month.
The drugs were shipped in two containers sent from Venezuela bound for Iraq via Belgium.
Prosecutors described the haul as one of Holland's biggest.
