Humidity too high to pin?
    #4628154 - 09/06/05 11:16 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

Hello all.

This is my second try at casing WBS with 60/40 verm/coir. My trays have been in the fruiting chamber for 5 days with no pins (I'm not worried yet). My question is about the RH of my fruiting chamber. My temperatures are pretty steady 73-77, never higher, and I have been giving them 12 hours light a day with a reading lamp on top of the chamber, 12 hours darkness covered under blankets. The humidity is consistently higher than 95%. Is this too high? I am fanning about every hour (save for sleep time), and this takes it down, but by the next hour it is back up, sometimes as high as 98%. I have lightly misted once, because the casing looked dry, and not since. I am not using perlite or anything similar. Can anyone tell me a) what I should be looking for, and b) anything about my RH levels?

Thanks a million

Humidity for a casing should be 80-85%..

Check my post I just made:

Right, I thought that's about how high it should be, but the humidity is natural, so I don't know how to knock it down. If it's harmful, how can i reduce the RH?

How are you delivering the humidity to the FC?

i'm not. i simply cased and threw them in there, and it gets very, very humid. i'm in a rainy state, so the humidity is high anyway. Any thoughts? I am really trying to make this work.

Thanks!

How many inches of perlite are you using, in what size chamber?

I've had cubes pin and fruit at 95-100% RH, so that's not a problem. Five days is a bit soon to expect pins. Wait 7-14 days before you start worrying.

either your substrate was really wet when you spawned or the casing is just loosing all its moisture creating the humidity. you say the casing looks like it is drying out?

that high a humidity will be ok until you start seeing pinning, then it would be better if you could get it lowered. do you have any holes stuffed with polyfil in the fc? more air exchange or free flow exchange with the holes.
best of luck
:peace:
