I think it has to do with packaging more than weight.

In the US if you possess a mushroom with psilocybin/psilocin then you are doing something illegal. The mushroom isn't the illegal part, the drugs inside of them are.

I read somewhere that the law in Florida is somewhat more lax for picking them.... ' cant recall where I read it though.

In the uk, mushrooms are legal as long as they are fresh and unprocessed. You cannot be arrested or prosecuted for possessing freshly picked or cultivated mushrooms. However, drying or powdering or preparing them in any way for consumption turns them into a Class A....however the police don't really give a shit about mushrooms, they don't really bother with them at all.
