ID help please

just curious as to what type it is..

* Habitat - under a bush, nestled in with some dying grass
* Characteristics of the gills - brownish/tan
* Characteristics of the stem - all averaged 1-3inches long, and thin
* Characteristics of the cap - 1 inch in diameter, tan fading to a darker brown in the middle
* Scent of the mushroom - similar to a sweaty sock

Im extremely new to hunting..so please go easy on me, Im just trying to learn! I ran across them in a shady area under a bush. The colony is starting to die due to lack of rain. The whole colony looks like its drying up quickly..knowing my luck its probably nothing :confused:

looks like an LBM and nothing more.

you can delete your own posts.
and just so you know "LBM" is the OPPOSSITE of a definative identification.
if you get some good pics and at least a sporeprint, you might just get it narrowed down to genus.

Im doing a spore print and will post it later, but it is hard to describe what they look like in full detail ..considering the colony is almost dried up. I fear that with my lack of expertise, that describing them might not be what they really look like while fruiting.

Maybe it would be safer to just continue hunting and try to catch this colony when it refruits after some rain. What do you think?

if youre looking for hallucinogenic mushrooms then i might as well tell you those arent them.

yes, they are not active. but if u still want an id, try and catch the species after the next rain... can u take a pic while its still growing in its natural habitat?

Even though they are not active, I would still like to know what type it is so I can identify it, if I ever happen to run into them again.

yes I have a digital camera that I'm going to start taking with me when I go out looking. If it ever rains here again...we've had 2 weeks of 80-90 degree weather with hardly any clouds and no rainfall. :frown:
