US Gov't gets bad press all over the world for it's handling of the New Orleans catastrophe
    #4625136 - 09/06/05 10:46 AM (18 years, 6 months ago)

I'm hearing alot of complaints about the kind of information FOX and other domestic US news networks bring. High time to get out the foreign newspapers and hear what they have to say about the way the Bush Administration handles the New Orleans crisis.

Quote:

China's Renmin Wang

If the US could shift part of its astronomical military spending to counter-terrorism, guarding against natural disasters, epidemic disease control and other aspects, then the 9/11 attack, Hurricane Katrina, the spread of Aids and other tragedies could be avoided or mitigated.

Quote:

Malaysia's Berita Harian

When the tsunami hit Asia last December, Bush succeeded in showing off his abilities by offering appropriate and well-organised humanitarian aid, but it seems he has been unresponsive, disorganised and discriminatory in dealing with the Katrina disaster.

Quote:

Indonesia's Suara Merdeka

People may hate the selfish US stance. They may also condemn its military invasion of Iraq or criticise Washington's threats to Iran, Syria and North Korea. But, it is inhuman to be grateful for the American people's disaster. Indonesia, in particular, must not forget the services of the US military when the tsunami devastated Aceh.

Quote:

Singapore's The Straits Times

The dead are only beginning to be gathered up. In Aceh and Thailand's beach resorts, those killed by the tsunami last December received the due respect of swift recovery, followed by identification. New Orleans people will not let Mr Bush forget this.

Quote:

Australia's The Age

President Bush is increasingly seen as out of touch with ordinary people and with reality on the ground - in New Orleans and Iraq - and also on issues such as climate change. The president and, by association, Republicans are highly vulnerable for the first time in years. How the Administration responds has broader implications, too - a deeply unpopular, lame duck president could alter the balance of global leadership.

Quote:

Afghanistan's Eslah

President Karzai has pledged 100,000 dollars for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. America has helped Afghanistan in various ways. Even if the assistance promised to the victims of Hurricane Katrina seems a symbolic act, it nevertheless shows that our country has credibility and authority in the international community.

Quote:

Israel's Yediot Aharonot

Just as 11 September 2001 changed the American agenda from internal matters to foreign policy and the war on terror, so Katrina is liable to take America back to its internal agenda: dealing with the environment, society, and the gaps between whites and blacks and between rich and poor.

Quote:

Palestinian Al-Hayat al-Jadidah

After Hurricane Katrina, a new section of the American public is waking up to the wretchedness of the administration's policies and to the disasters that have hit Americans as a result. Today's Iraq is worse than yesterday's, and there are not enough helicopters to tackle the hurricane. Bush and his administration will be judged by history.

Quote:

Iran's Resalat

Katrina was a natural catastrophe, but many experts believe America's policies have deepened the roots of the disaster. America had allocated the budgets for these areas to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Quote:

Germany's Die Tageszeitung

New Orleans has already become a symbol: never before in human history has a natural disaster been predicted in such exact detail. Despite this, the prediction had no effect. It's as if mankind has lost the power to correct its own mistakes: In New Orleans, it slid into catastrophe submissively and with eyes wide open. Climate change has already arrived.

Quote:

Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda

Emergencies Ministry planes have been under starter's orders for several days. But the go-ahead from the other side of the ocean never came. It leads you to think: Is Washington afraid of having US citizens rescued by people who are not flying the stars and stripes? Are they trying to preserve the prestige of a state that does not take easily to accepting aid from a "third-world" country? But isn't the saving of human life more important than PR or ideological considerations?

Quote:

South Africa's Star

The death and destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina also revealed the racial fissures in American society. Most of the hapless survivors who filled New Orleans' Superdome were black. Bush's other weaknesses are his poor environment record and his management of the US economy.

Quote:

Zimbabwe's Herald

The fact that New Orleans is a southern town predominantly populated by African-Americans explains why President George W. Bush did not see the need to cut short his holiday. All that Bush has done so far is to issue threats against the victims, and deploying trigger-happy American troops - fresh from abusing Iraqi prisoners - to go and "restore order".

Don't shoot the messenger

Dude, even FOX NEWS reporters like Shepard Smith were dissing the government live on air for their shitty half-assed effort. It's only afterwards now that they're covering their asses.

The title of this thread brings to mind..."This just in, KKK gets bad press from black media."

Anything those less than the best countries can say about us, they will. Give Bush a break....GOD SPEAKS THROUGH HIM! If those countries have a beef with what he has done, they should take it up with the lord.

How is that bad press over the disaster?  "we must not forget their services..."?  That doesn't sound bad to me. IT sounds like a Muslim newspaper in a Muslim nation is against our invasion of, hey how did THIS issue get in here, IRAQ

This doesn't seem even slightly critical.  "helped Afghanistan in various ways"

Rant Rant Rant, Tirade, Tirade, Tirade

With all of these nations despising our president, it's a wonder that they reelected him.

Oh! Hah, their say doesn't matter for fuck-all in our elections. What a massive waste of my time reading all of this crap.  "the entire world doesn't like one person". No freakin shit.  If these people think that Bush could have done more, why don't they (and I don't see ONE of these bullshit articles doing it) OFFER SUGGESTIONS.

The world just wants to continue their whimpy little anti-war stance.  Does it matter that national guard troops were 20% above the required readiness status for homeland protection? Nah fuck no, BUSH WANTS UR OIL OMG! DON"T U NO!! HAHAS.

Does it matter that you can't really do anything to prepare for the worst disaster ever?  Of course not! BUSH AND OIL AND CHENEY AND OMG TEH OIL AND IRAQZ TORTURED PRISONERS AND IF GITMO WERE GIVEN BACK TO THE CUBANS THOSE MARINES COULD HAVE MAGICLLY HELPED

Just another excuse for the sheep to bahh their same tired song.

W_S, can you conjure me a reason, in your dorky little spell circle, that we should trust IRANS STATE RUN NEWS-FUCKING-PAPER?  I love how libbies believe the ayatollah, but consider bush an evil imperialist racist   Must be hard being that stupid.

I hope people are video taping the news, and keeping a close eye on this.

Someone is going to get nailed to a cross for this. The greatest threat to the government is its own people, and they are fucking pissed. They better let them all die, otherwise, they will love their vote.

I'd like to see an instance where a similar situation happened, and some other government handled it better.

Cuba, they evacuated 1.3 million people last year from hurricane Ivan.

America dropped the ball.

Should soldiers with guns be allowed to forcibly evacuate a city? You can't say "no, I'm not going" in Cuba.

Whether you like it or not...Bush is gonna get the heat for this. Do I personally think it was Bush's fault?...no. Is he the one that ultimately must take responsibility for it? You betcha.

What good are thousands of national guard on ready if they don't know what they should do, or where they should be? The problem as I see it was that there was a serious lack of communication between agencies. Despite 9-11, and all the postering by the Bush administration, this disaster has shown that when it comes down to it...they aren't prepared for shit, Even after knowing that this was coming...what if this was a nuclear or biological attack?

of course i dont dispute what the world press is saying as a matter of fact...but unfortunately..any kind of negative feedback against amerikkka from them..be it factual or otherwise..will only elicit the opposite response and make the folks even more beligerent...they would even do better to praise bushcos' handling of katrina..however ludicrous that may be..or better yet..respond with a roar of deafening silence...

Unfortunately? Too bad we don't roll over at the purr of bloody Europe, right?

We get it though, Europes weapon is a very stern ideological whisper backed by the worlds most famous transexual and enuch (france and german, respectively).

You say that now, but wait until the Force de Frappe shoves a  TN81 up your keister

These are just newspaper clippings from around the world, offering an opportunity to expand your insight beyond the usual media.
Who's ever read a Palestinian newspaper before? They basically said the American people are being duped by their government. I bet that Palestinian piece sounded a tad more reasonable than you envisioned it. No anti-americanism there, just a pro-american people/anti-american government stance like many other nations.

And how about those Russki's, who've got their rescue planes on alert for days and days now but simply aren't welcome to come to the aid of those in need?

Looner, it's amusing how threatened you feel by European superiority  This is just political debate and if you're realistic then you got to admit that anything I posted about all of this might have been posted by your next door neighbor, so there's nothing "european" about it.

Oh come on now. Anti-Americanism is the new fad and it desperately tries to reach out to the braindead of our country in hopes that we adopt Europes twisted dogma. Why can't I retaliate against it? I don't want my country being influenced by Europe. I am proud that we DON'T listen. You got Canada on your side and that is bad enough. Canada is really desperate for an identity, but not us. We are a nation above and beyond everything the world has ever seen and I'd rather not see it go into depths of despair. So, as long as the shit is slung from Europe to here, you will get it right back. The deal breaker is that Europe wants the U.S to listen to them, and we couldn't give a damn. If the words, "fuck off" had any better use than in this instance than I wouldn't have a potty mouth, but without further adu.

Europe, fuck off!

I know your intentions beyond what you think I know!

Really?

Where did they evacuate them to?

Did they do it by themselves, or did they have outside help?
