dunk n roll - pro's and con's

what is the point of dunking and rolling?
and how do you do it?
is it just as good to take the cake straight out of the jar and into the terrarium?
or will dunking and rolling it just cause the cake to have more flushes

Not sure about extending flushes but sure will give you a better yield (more and larger shrooms).

i think there are alot more pro's to doing it than cons. i would never consider not doing it. but one 'con' is that it is messy, oh and also can be time consuming. but that goes with most gardening experiences anyway.

another question.
does it have to be cool water?
and really sterile water (like aquafina or something like that)
beacuse im growing in my parents house, and i kinda have to keep everything on the DL, so im thinking can i just use lukewarm water?

What I did when I did the PF tek was just put water directly into the jars, before they were birthed and then put them in the fridge over night. The next day I brithed and rolled it in dry verm/coco coir and put some on the top and bottom as well. Then used a spray bottle with a little bit of h202 and wetted the rest of the verm/coir so it didn't dry out the cakes after I put it in the fruiting chamber.
Basically what dunking does is it hydrates the cake so it has more water to make the shrooms. So when it's hydrated good you have bigger shrooms.
The con is a slightly higher chance of contams

The only con of dunking and rolling is touching the cakes. End of story. It's good for your cakes, 'nuff said.

does it matter if its lukewarm water/semi cool, or does it have to be cold water?

the "cool water" and the fridge is almost entirely about sterile conditions. the coolness of the water and the fridge is also a pin trigger but mostly for the sterile"ness" warm vs. cool

Alright. Don't cold shock. There are various reasons... Here's some: Do you question the sterility of your refridgerator. Because you should. Most refridgerators are festering. Second. Cold shocking is for gourmet mushrooms. Not Cubes. Cold shocking will only add stress to the cakes thus causing them to pin slower. Don't cold shock unless you need your pins to grow at a slowed rate. Finally. I dunk my cakes in distilled water at room temp. It can be any kind of water, but I use distilled because Inkow it has a lower risk of contams.

I will always recommend "clean" water either tap thats been boiled or distilled, keeping things clean is just good sterile culture technique. I've done enough cakes dunked in the fridge to know it doesn't slow the rate at which pins develop, cakes warm up in the fruiting chamber in a matter of a couple hours and proliferate with pins soon enough. The refridge may indeed have many mold spores but they are not multipling to any real degree because of the temp. You are also dunking in a container so theres no problem, the biggest point here is cakes don't have to be dunk but if you want it's just fine (I do) you may certainly lose a day at most as the myc has to colonize the casing (verm) and will have to warm up to reanimate. Hell ya! But why not roll especially after all the work you've done to this point? Makes no mycosense?

If ya find any soilless mixes they will work also. I've even used Miracle Gro's AquaCoir after picking out the fert pellets (PITA!) But no vehicle makes everything tough I hear ya. GL
