State lawmaker says nursing home patients abandoned to flood

http://www.kron4.com/Global/story.asp?S=3816529&nav=5D7lBwNh

NEW ORLEANS A state lawmaker from Louisiana says workers at a nursing home just outside New Orleans abandoned 30 patients, who then died in their beds as hurricane floodwaters rose.

State Representative Nita Hutter says some sort of rescue plan never materialized and the workers "left them in those beds" in Chalmette, Louisiana.

Hutter says she survived Hurricane Katrina in St. Bernard Parish. She and an emergency worker kept calling the state throughout the hurricane, saying the water was rising. Officials couldn't get to them during the storm, so they helped rescue others in Chalmette.

That's pretty rotten of those workers. Same thing with 80% of the NO police force who walked off the job. In fact, the police walking off the job is probably a larger source of miseries in New Orleans. What should have been done in the after math was an immediate federal rescue of survivors while all police efforts were concentrated on security. Instead they walked off in the disarray and bandits pretty much took over the city for a few days. As for this hospital staff...I hope they read the news blurb that a bunch of people died there. All it would have taken was a few people to move everyone up to a higher level, maybe one person to remain there to get a copter to drop supplies. The humanity of Hurricane Katrina is a disgrace. No one is helping their fellow man out. It's like the levee broke and it was every man for himself after that.

funny how the cops are there only if its convient for them to bully people, but soon as their needed to do something useful they run and hide.

ill remember to teach my kids that "Cops are professional bullies".
