Deepak Chopra on Katrina
    #4628789 - 09/07/05 05:34 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

He is all over the news giving disaster advice even though he has absolutely no background in meteorology, sociology, economics, geography, engineering nor any remotely-related field.

The triple bags under his tired eyes, however; did convince me to buy "Ageless Body; Timeless Mind".

He's probably getting laid so much more than you or me that he hasn't time to get adequate rest.

Swami, the people in there will take any help and assistance they can get.

Remember that Deepak is a Certified Medical Surgeon. People with less of a degree are going in to help whoever they can and they are being overwhelmed with those in need. The people effected are greatful for it.

What sort of experience does anyone need to let others know you care?

I suppose you would've put up a post that Deepak was off vacationing in Spain through all of this if he didn't get involved.

Care to share with us what you have done to help those effected by Katrina yet?

Thanks for letting the board know that Deepak practices what he preaches and where compassion is sorely needed now on the planet, he is there and made himself available to them.

If you think he has some hidden agenda for helping best he can, then we can lump you in with those who believe Dark Agendas and paranoid delusions that the nice people are out to get everyone.

Deepak left his job as a surgeon because he got sick of seeing how the medical profession who were all about cutting and doping people up. He cares and knows another way, an alternative and he has been bringing it to the western world.

If you want make cracks about him just wanting to get rich, he already was as a surgeon.

If he wasn't wealthy, you'd call foul on his manifesting financial abundance books, saying how can he teach people to increase the abundance in their lives when he can't even do it for himself. Again, he practices what he preaches and can back up his talk.

Over the last year, plus, I have read all of your reasons for why you hate this man so much and they are all pretty weak reasons. Are you Jealous of him or something? I don't get it.

It's easy to lump someone into a catagory of fraud when you see that they aren't a perfect human being. I do this myself. Yet I can cut myself some slack and those I consider great if they show their humaness.

Thanks for pointing out all the positive parts of this man.

Yeah, did he kick your dog or something?

Chopra, much like the rest of us, is not perfect. Why hammer on this fact repeatedly?

Remember that Deepak is a Certified Medical Surgeon. People with less of a degree are going in to help whoever they can and they are being overwhelmed with those in need. The people effected are greatful for it.

Chopra offered no aid nor medical assistance. He has been a highly paid "talking head" discussing subjects that he is no expert in, such as wetlands and global warming.

Please explain how that helps anyone.

If he wasn't wealthy, you'd call foul ...
Now you are arguing about your projections about what I might say if conditions were different - that is unbelievably weak. Should we all adopt this "strategy"?

Imperfection = fraud?

Should I not hammer on predators that people view as wise men? Was the head of Enron merely imperfect? How about Jim Jones, or Popov or the Bakkers or John Edward or your very own Rajneesh...

Seems in summation that you and jiggy are saying that I should quietly let people be bilked by flim-flam artists; that lies should not be exposed.

OK then.

Someone has to raise awareness about why NO has been sinking. It's because of the levees. Rivers can't deposit soil during normal overflow and flood cycles.

Do you know how much of NO is disappearing daily and returning to the forested mangrove it was before development because they simply can't hold back nature in such an area?

He like experts who have been studying this are trying to raise awareness for those making decisions in the rebuilding process. One scientists is advising that they turn the lower lying areas back into wet lands etc.

Deepak is a man of prevention and he is looking ahead and offering what he can to keep this from happening again on the scale it did.

We need more people out there trying to get natures way through the governments thick skull.

If Depak is saying the same thing the scientific community is then whats the problem?

These scientists studying the ecology of the area say they have been telling the government of NO these things and no one has been listening. maybe the cause needs a high profile person to get the people attention.

When Depak talks, millions listen. When a no name eco-nerd talks, people flip the channel.

I havn't seen him on TV talking about this myself.

Thanks for letting me know that is what he is doing. I have been seeing the other scientists talking on it and I fully agree with them. To hear Deepak is giving them a voice is a wonderful thing!

I respect and admire him even more now.

Swami:

Imperfection = human

Perhaps he is a fraud, but I would hardly call him a predator.

I say "Buyer Beware" whether purchasing a belief system or a stereo system.

Personally, I have not donated any of my hard-earned cash to his cause, having read 2 of his books through the public library.

It's OK if you want to hammer away at him, but your fervor about it seems personally motivated.

If people make poor decisions, such as giving their lives and money over to flim-flam artists, couldn't they receive an important lesson for their money?

Who is Chopra harming by rattling on about topics he knows little about?  There are many talking heads taking advantage of this disaster to garner some free publicity--are they all predators, too?

I will never ask you to quit talking about Chopra, but I would like to know more about your personal objections to him.  That is what I asked, not for you to "shut up."

I hope he keeps talking too. I learned more about deepak that I like from swami in this post!

Veritas, swami posted his refrigerator list on Deepak in one of your old posts, remember?

Go back and find it and address his issues in it. Back then, you just said to swami, "Oh my, what a big refrigerator you have."

Deepak is a man of prevention
Which is why he came out AFTER the fact.

If Depak is saying the same thing the scientific community is then whats the problem?
"The scientific community" is not a unified body on global warming and hurricanes.

When Depak talks, millions listen. When a no name eco-nerd talks, people flip the channel.
So from now on we should always have a famous person discussing important topics that they have only skimmed, rather than the real experts, merely because they are well known?

Hypothetical: Would you prefer to discuss treatment options for that lump in your breast with a nerdy, internationally unknown onconologist with 20 years of respected local experience or with Madonna?

It's not after the fact. NO was already built. Rebuilding is forced to take place now and now is the time to address the eoc-problems that helped for this flooding disaster to kill so many people and to make changes now so it doesn't happen again.

There is a community of eco-scientists that have been studying the ecology of NO for years. I was referring to them.

Celebrities raise awareness of the information science has researched and help to raise funds for further scientific research.

The celebrities that raise public awareness on scientific issues make a difference. More people are reached and thats just a fact of how society works.

Veritas,

I understand. Deepak was in the past the source of many pivotal points and launching pads and the fuel to take off from them for me. I feel like I owe the man props. I spent about $120 on some of his books years back and feel they were worth more.

Like with anything in life, we get what we project unto it, take from it and make of it.

It's not after the fact.

Amazing! So now you are bending time AND changing definitions to make a point?

Katrina bursts levees - 7 days ago

Chopra warning about levees - 2 days ago
