Under international law, a refugee is a person who is outside his/her country of nationality or habitual residence; has a well-founded fear of persecution because of his/her race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion; and is unable or unwilling to avail himself/herself of the protection of that country, or to return there, for fear of persecution. They are subgroup of the broader category of displaced persons. They are distinguished from economic

A person who flees to a foreign country or power to escape danger or persecution.

One of the six legal immigrant categories, refugees are aliens who are unable to remain in their country of origin due to persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. Refugees are subject to ceilings by geographic area set annually by the President in consultation with Congress. They are eligible for lawful permanent resident status after one year of continuous presence in the United States. Refugees differ from asylees in that people outside the United States apply for refugee status, but people already in the United

a person who has been forced to leave his/her home and has crossed an international border.

The fine points of the definition vary under different bodies of international law, but generally, this term applies to people who have fled their country to avoid persecution or the threat of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion. International humanitarian law defines refugees more broadly, including displaced persons who have fled their homes during armed conflicts but have not left their homeland.

so why the hell are we calling people of our own country not fleeing persecution ect refugees, it is a bit of an insult i think the word victims applies better here. its a wonder how these people on the news even graduated when they dont even know the definition of the words they use

I disagree.
My interpretation is that if you are seeking refuge:

ref?uge
n.
1. Protection or shelter, as from danger or hardship.
2. A place providing protection or shelter.
3. A source of help, relief, or comfort in times of trouble.

then you qualify to be called a refugee:

ref?u?gee
n.
One who flees in search of refuge...

your = you own it
you're = contraction for "you are"

Example:

YOU'RE going to drive YOUR car tomorrow.

2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

But, to roughly quote the Lt. Governor of LA:"These people are not refugees.  The last I saw Louisiana is a state in the Union, bordered by other states in the Union.  These "refugees" are Americans.  They are American Citizens.  And so should be called as such.  And treated with all the rights and dignity that label entails."

Fuck this shit, tho.  The people are dead that were going to die.  Too late.  Too bad.

FUCK this emergency response system, tho.  :thebird:
