why not just spray the sides with water (to obtain high humidity)?
    #4626558 - 09/06/05 07:47 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I sprayed the inside of my incubator the other day to increase humidity (it was around 40 percent) to get it up to 70. Well, when I checked it, the reading was HI (above 91 somewhere).  So I just thought, rather than messing with perlite or other ways during the growing stage, why not just spray the sides of your terranium to keep humidity up?

Did I miss somethere here? This has to be too easy to be true.

Thanks!

Yes, you did, lol. Think about it in the long run. When the humidity starts collecting on the sides, then rolling to the bottom. You wont want puddles in there, right? But, im just a newb so, take me with a grain of salt.

Well, I think you have it pretty much right.

yes you can get away with just misting the sides of your fruiting chamber.

but be sure and check it on a regular basis.

There we go. Misting the casing surface and the walls are more than enough RH to support pinning. There's no need for perlite or any other external humidification. Pooling isn't an issue if you spray fine, and fan regurlarly.

Sounds like a plan to me! Not having to mess with the perlite is going to be a great load off. Just to follow up though, I am not using casings yet, just PF cakes..... Same rules apply?

for your cakes, what I have done, the tub that has the cakes,
poke some holes in the bottom, and fit that on top of another tub the
same size to catch any drippings. But I like to use growrocks
instead of perlite.

about the water pooling on the bottom, you could add some hydrogen peroxide or some bleach to the very bottom and no contams would grow.
