Is this caseable or beyond hope? [PIC]
    #4625389 - 09/06/05 01:43 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Here's a 1/2 quart jar of colonized WBS (cambodian strain) that I was about to case until I noticed a tiny bit of green at the top:

Is it even worth casing knowing that I'll endanger the other jars in the casing or is there a good chance I could get rid of the contam if I did some surgery/bleach soaking or something? One other jar looks like this too so I wouldn't have much to case if I had to get rid of them both.

Thanks.

Throw it out, that little bit of green that you can see may be fully colonized in the middle of jar, green stuff is hard to kill and spreads easy.

if you really wanna keep it, or if youre up for a fun experiment. use it outdoors. cut off the contams outside as to not let any spores loose in your house. case it by itself and keep it in the shade in a porch or something. water it every now and then. should work unless temps are constantly below 70? at your place

tehres a tiny tiny chance it would still be fine inside but i woudlnt risk infecting the rest of your crop

I agree the green mold is a bad bad thing. One thing you could try is openig it cand removing all green. then case it outside.... nature has its ways of making contaminates go away.
threw an old green mold infected cake in a pot and covered it with shit and peatmoss. 3-4 weeks later i looked not that i was exspecting anything but sure enough i had like 15 tiny shrooms growing. only dried out to 1.5g but none the less it didn't get totally waisted....... rewatered it and im waiting again.

Alright, thanks all for the advice. I'll keep the contaminateed cases separate for now. As far as trying to get rid of as much green as possible before casing them...any suggestions? I was thinking I would cut out the green, crumble and dunk in a bleach solution (a la Hippie's bleach tek) and then either case or just throw in with some straw and horse manure and see what happens. This would all be outside too to avoid spreading trich spores around (even though they are obviously already in here somewhere). If I were to case it, would it be risky to keep the casing in the same incubator as the uncontaminated casings?

You can try hippies bleach tek, it works wonders for me although I havent tried it with any grains. I wouldnt put them in my dedicated fruiting chamber myself though, and honestly any more I just bury them outside with some poo. In the winter I just toss em, its not worth losing a bunch of other work over.
