yeah so i just watched this movie, and i have to say, it was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. i kept wanting to turn it off because it was so boring, but i forced myself to watch the whole thing just in case the movie redeemed itself at the end. but no, it didn't.
the production and artistic value was good, but basic film elements were lacking, like character development and good dialogue. with the exception of bruce willis's character, nothing changed from the beginning of the movie to the end. the movie basically went nowhere.
it just struck me as mindless entertainment, like a horror movie. almost every scene was somebody fighting somebody else, like Kill Bill but even more monotonous (if that's possible). the film had no redeeming value or message to give to the viewer. what's the point of even watching movies like this? maybe someone who "gets it" can explain it to me.
overall i'd give Sin City a 3 out of 10.

Sin City is without a shadow of doubt, one of the most coolest movies I have ever seen in my life. I love that movie. It's beautiful.

I've heard this complain almost word for word before. So I'll just go ahead and say what I said to that guy.
Shut up
Have you ever read a comic book before? That's EXACTLY what it's supposed to be, a lot of fighting, with random and overemphasized hot chicks in there. Go pick up a copy of the original comic or something and edumicate yourself, they did the movie brilliantly.

I've yet to watch this, my roommate just bought it though so I';ll get a chance to without paying...so I wont care if it sucks.

i thought it was pretty good. when i originally saw it, it was a divx copy that lost some of the (few) colours that the movie has, so that kinda sucked. but jessica alba swinging a lasso around... hot damn!
i'm really not a fan of comix at all (except weird shit like crumb, or the fabulous furry freak brothers), but i dug this movie.

Yeah i know all about Frank Miller's comic books and even read one of the Sin City ones. But just because it's based on the comic books doesn't give Miller an excuse to make a terribly cheesy movie. The X-men comic books are cheesy as hell but those movies turned out pretty good. They worked out well because the producers adapted the comic book world to the film world, which at least tries to include things like realism and character development. Miller's characters on screen are completely one-dimensional. A movie is supposed to draw you in and make you forget you're watching actors, but this one just didn't do that for me.

I think you may have missed the point.
With Sin City, the director wasn't trying to adapt a comic into a film, but rather do a direct translation. It's purposefully over dramatized and cheesy, much like a comic book.

Like you said, its not an adaptation. It IS the comic book, just in movie form.

God....I know! That scene where Bruce Willis goes into the bar and the narration goes, "She really filled out" and Jessica Alba is moving her ass like a gyro. Schwing!
I am debating on whether to masturbate to Jessica Alba or Carla Gugino when I watch the movie again.
