BUG CONTAM!?!
    #4624755 - 09/06/05 09:39 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

So I'm storing my rye in my closet not thinking about anything but fungus and I happen to glance into my giant as bag and what do I find??? Bugs!!! Ones that have hard shells, I call them shit whevelz but they are just so happy walking around my rye and I've put two and two together there... and decided that I'm getting pissed off. Anyone know if these tiny bastards will cause my problems... I think it's too late to return my rye=( God... If you're listen... HELP!

Rye is really cheap, dude. Just buy some more.
And also when yuou get new rye, dump it out into an airtight container.

Sure. Eggs or larvae will not survive the sterilization process...Just try to remove what you can before your soak or addition into jars.

the bugs didn't come from nowhere, so you probibly have larva in there too. Put it in the freezer for 48 hrs. that's supposed to work for soil. I just got maggots in a dung casing and tried refrigerating it. dunno if it'll work. PCing it should be fine if your using it now.

I've never had a problem with bugs in my pc'd substrate. Maybe a newborn maggot could find it's way down there through the polyfill, or I guess any other small insect, becuase from what I understand, any insect that could get close enough to smell what's inside would probably try to get in. I've had maggots in an old casing that sat out for too long.
