I read that you can reuse perlite if it gets skunky and mine is in need of some refurbishing. How do I do this?

well I dont do it, but put in something like a pillow case, and put into a bucket with a little bleach and water maybe, then pull the case out and let it drain.

The bleach dunk is so easy! That is the way I stereilize my perlite always.
-------------------- Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

Good advice there. Allow the sack of perlite to soak in a MILD bleach solution for a few hours. Make sure it's submerged well. Then simply drain it and then put the perlite in a collander to be rinsed well under the tap.....

Heres a tip to remember, leave it in the pillowcase when rinsing! Thats the beauty of doing it this way!

so after you have rinsed the bleach off with tap water it is ready to go straight back into the FC??
Is this recommended after every flush??

Rinse and soak in bleach. I have then microwaved it while still wet and full of bleach. The bleach will degrade into salt and chlorine gas. The left over salt will reduce further contams in the perlite.

Not necessary after each flush thats what the peroxide is for also not necessary to microwave, KISS is the word here. GL

I don't understand why this is so talked about. Perlite is found at every wal-mart and home depot and it's like $2.99 a bag. Don't take any chance and just buy a brand new clean bag.

LOL! I feel ya! But it's easier to rinse out all of the shit you don't want in your perlite with a collander, rather than having a pillow case coraling in all the stuff you don't want in there. Cake pieces, vermiculite, shroom chunks, exc.
