    #4623773 - 09/05/05 09:15 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

hi, i am planning my first attempt at growing, i was wondering if it is alright to use perlite instead of vermiculite in the substrate stage? Every store i go to is sold out of vericulite.

if you can't find verm in your area, maybe you should skip the pftek all together and try your hand at grains... you will need a pc for this if you don't already have one, it will be the best investment you'll make for this hobby reguardless

grains are fairly simple and if you stick to the teks, you'll find it is much easier and more efficient than the pf tek

Wow. Everyday, some newb asks the same question. Can someone just put a sticky on the forum saying " No you cannot substitue verm with perlite!"

Man don't say someone newb if you are a real newb.

"(c)Perlite spawn
This was developed by Lemke (1971). Perlite is a mineral which expands at temperature more than 10000C. The ingredients, of the spawn are : Perlite (1,450 g), wheat-bran (1,650 g), gypsum (200 g), calcium carbonate (50 g), and water (665 cc). The gredients are mixed, filled in bottles and sterlized. Thereafter, the process is the same as for grain spawn. Perlite spawn is easy to disperse and can be produced at a cheaper cost. This spawn can be stored for a long time.
"
And always show the sources.
The above is taken from:

The answer is yes you can use it.

And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

It is mentioned in TMC in an alternative spawn recipe too.
I would use verm before it, but it will work
