Mom just had one of my brownies... oops
    #4623530 - 09/05/05 08:03 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

My mom was having a little craving for sweets and ate one of the brownies I made a while ago . I had them in the freezer (for storage). She didn't know they were pot brownies. Heh. Imagine my surprise when I checked on them today and found one missing. Anyhow... she only had one, and they're low potency, so she should only get tired and maybe a little buzz if anything.

I'll try to subtly encourage her to eat an early dinner. Perhaps that will decrease the effects enough of the already low-potency brownies that she won't even notice anything's out of the ordinary (except a little sleepiness )

This could be interesting.

Keep us posted...I'd love to hear how this goes. I only had brownies once and I couldn't control my laughter; definitely a different kind of high.

No.

I ate some weed brownies last night and you could not tell there was any weed in them at all. They tasted completely normal.

Shit. She had three brownies, not just one. That's about how much I would take recreationally for a mellow night. If she had just one, she'd just get tired and there wouldn't be a problem. But she had three...

I'm so sorry for her, I never expected something like this to happen. She's never done any drugs in her entire life (she's never even been drunk).

She's kind of having a bad trip. Says that her head's swimming, off-balance, stomach achey, dizzy... "why would anyone enjoy this," "I just want it to end," etc. She's focusing on all the negative effects and none of the positive ones.

I've done my best to comfort her. I have some experience stabalizing people who are having a bad trip, fortunately.

I had a long conversation with her, told her that she's in no risk of physical or mental harm, that she'll be totally normal in a few hours, etc. I showed her some art, and some of the artwork I've done (which she had never seen before--she liked it), played some soft music quietly while we talked, let her lie down on my bed, and we talked about upcoming events and things. Anything non-stress-oriented to keep her mind off of what she was feeling and away from the negatives.

I told her that if she's tired she should go to bed and watch TV or try to sleep, and she did. So far things are going "okay" in that they could have been much worse. I'm just so sorry for her to have to go through that... I'm trying to keep her comfortable as much as possible. Hopefully everything will be alright. At least she's not at any risk of physical/mental harm...

When you do psychedelic drugs, you know that at some point you'll have to comfort someone who's having a bad trip. But you never think it'll be your own mother.

This is the reason I don't keep acid in my dads fridge anymore. Not that he would think it was food but he might just think it was acid and eat it out of curiosity. Thats the last thing I need.

awww, why'd you tell her?  :tongue2:

Lol, joking asside though, I hope everything worked out for the best, funny, me and my friend have had discussions about scenerios in which our family members unknowingly consume drugs, we were a stonned at the time, but came up with a scenerio where someone tells their parents that the mushrooms they're growing are gourmet so their mom picks some and cooks a nice holiday meal out of them at christmas, you come home to find your entire family tripping balls and freaking out after the older people in your family simply couldn't take it and passed away, we decided that in such an event we'd be so traumatized we'd probably run away, leave the country, and never speak of it again.

O well, hopefuly this wont happen again, could have been worse, could have been shroom chocolates...

Well she woke up with a headache, probably a result of dehydration, so I told her to drink 2 glasses of water. She's feeling a lot better. She said that the experience last night was very bad and that she couldn't possibly fathom how anyone could enjoy the experience.

Until I convinced her, she didn't believe it was marijuana in the brownies. I explained that it was technically a different chemical than what is smoked (Delta-9-THC is smoked; orally, 11-OH-THC when metabolized by the liver I believe) and that the effects are significantly different depending on the route of administration.

Currently things are working out alright. I'm just glad it wasn't any worse, or anything else.

Yeah, glad she's okay, even if a little shook up. That could have been worse.
That's the first I've ever heard of 11-OH-THC, do you have a link that explains this. I know that eating it is def. different from smoking it, I didn't know it was a chemical difference.

Actually, I think 11-OH-THC is the main metabolite of Delta-9-THC. It may not be psychoactive. But THC is definitely tranformed in the liver into something more powerful.

Edit: okay here's something:

"There is much evidence to indicate that THC is bioactivated by metabolism in the lungs and liver. The first step in THC metabolism is the addition of a hydroxyl group at the 11 position resulting in 11- hydroxy-delta-9-THC which is an active metabolite"

from http://extoxnet.orst.edu/newsletters/n33_83.htm

That doesn't suggest anything unique about oral ingestion, though. Weird. I'll keep looking.

Maybe 11-hydroxy-delta-9-THC is it, though. Perhaps a larger quantity of THC is metabolized by the liver upon oral ingestion, and that in turn leads to a larger transformation to 11-hydroxy-delta-9-THC. It would be logical to assume that more THC reaches the bloodstream orally as opposed to smoking, right? If 11-hydroxy-delta-9-THC is indeed more psychoactive (as everything I've read says it is), then that's probably it what it's about.

The THC you get from eating is just Delta-11-tetrahydrocannabinol (3,6(most potent, honey oil), 9 and 11 are all psychoactive)
