Found Several Shrooms
    #4623083 - 09/05/05 05:49 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

These pictures aren't much and haven't had a chance to do spore prints yet. These were taken in my room, messy room I might add, with a bad web-cam. Even if any of these are active I'm not dumb enough to eat them cause you still never know. By the way, these all were found in the woods, usually amongst dead leaves, in Kentucky.

The first one you see is a small brown colored shroom.

The second one set of pictures you see are of a mushroom that is yellowish brown with a cone shaped head. This is a very, very long mushroom, around 9 inches. The underside of the mushroom is hollow.

The third set of pictures you see are sort of like the first one, though the mushroom seems a bit flatter though still isn't. The mushroom cap is brown and the gills are white.

The fourth set of pictures you see are of a nice pale blue mushroom. The gills are very dark blue and are well defined grooves. The cap is huge with a dent type slope in the middle.

The last set of pictures you see are of a big sized cap mushroom that is tannish/yellow in color with a dark red/brown print on the top that looks like it could of been baked in an oven for too long. The underside, the gills, are a greenish yellow and feels and looks spongy.

Any help is nice though doesn't matter so much except to cure my curiosity as I don't plan on ingesting this mushrooms.

Thank you.

Dark cup-shaped one looks like a lactarius. The big one with spongy gills is some boletus, both are probably edible but wait for more feedback before you try cooking. If you scratch the cup-like shroom and the surface layer bleeds a red/orange/purple milky substance then its lactarius.

The rest are not edible and not hallucinogenic.

BitterPill: you mention cooking. I wasn't planning on cooking any of them. If they were psychedelic at all I thought you couldn't cook them. Is lactarius common for Kentucky though? Also, which one are you calling cup shaped?

None of those mushrooms are psychedellic. I was just drawing your attention to possible edible non-actives. You're right that if they were psychedellic they shouldn't be cooked.

That giant mushroom is a Boletus, and they are common over much of America. However I am less certain of that possible Lactarius. It's worth looking up. There is plenty of information about both subspecies on this site.

This is the mushroom I'm talkign about (cup-shaped/lactarius?):

The lactarius species I have found online aren't usually this color of blue if even blue so that makes me think that this isn't a lactarius. Course, I could be wrong lol. I've been known to be wrong lots in the past.

Yes I think youre right, I'm leaning towards Clitocybe. Sorry I haven't posted in a year, I'm a little rusty  :frown:.

A more clear description is always helpful, try to include spore print colors, smell, gill pattern, etc.

Good luck in your hunts.

Well to be honest bitterpill I smelled of the blue one and it didn't smell like anything. As far as spore print I have already threw them out as I had no need for them anyway. I must wonder though if a person can get sick from just smelling of toxic mushrooms though. I woke up this morning really ill, which I seem to be fine, just throwing it out there.
