Casing, what's next?
    #4622285 - 09/05/05 02:01 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I have a lasagna pans with one quart jar that colonized it. It is starting to pin and I was wondering if I should lower the humidity now or wait untill the pinset is complete. Also, should I give it as much light as possible to create more pins. I guess what I' saying is that the pinset has begun, is there anything I can do to make it better?

I would lower the humidity now.

More light doesn't = more pins.

Even casing layer + rhizomorhpic growth = more pins.

Edit: I guess go with 12/12 lighting...

dont forget about fresh air exchange

You only need 3 hours max of light a day

only 3 hours max a day? who are you kidding? the vets here use 12/12 cycle for optimal pinsets

Damn dude I didn't want to start a fight... I've got from reading that light sends a signal telling the mycellium to pin. I wanted to make sure I knew what to do next. Yes, I am fanning it about every two hours. If I lower the huumidity now will the pinset suffer?

sounds like you are on the right track, not floating in space. before recommending you lower the rH, where is it at? how about the temp?
temp drop, fresh air, and light addition are the three main pinning triggers. the rest depends on how well you made the casings and the environment you give them to grow.
best of luck

You can lower the humidity to about 80% but you don't want to go too much farther than that.

Humidity is around 95%. Temps in chamner are 76 degrees. I think I'll take some of the perlite out later on tonight, I have company coming over soon. That is unless anyone thinks that I should leave it in longer?

95% is too high for a casing.

You should try 80 - 85% RH...

exactly why i asked. an rh that high is ok until you start to see pinning then you should definitely get it down.
