possible Psilocybe capnoides

I found these mushrooms on a dead tree which has been cut down. I've been looking around for possible matches and the Psilocybe capnoides is the one I came up with. Oh yeah by the way I live in Belgium so that's Western Europe. Below are a couple of pictures of the ones I found.
The strain below is a bit diffrent and might be a sortlike shroom.
Thanx in advance, Grtz Behavis

I would like to see a sharper gillshot, but those closely resemble P. capnoides.

hrmm, cool pics. I'm pretty sure Hypholoma capnoides is the correct nomenclature for the species you suspect it to be though... I can't verify that the mushrooms in your pictures are that species, just thought I'd point that out so no one gets the impression they're active .

Yes, hypholoma capnoides is the correct nomenclature, but not in europe.

there are also plenty of european sites that list it as Hypholoma, the fact a few have it listed as Psilocybe doesn't mean much. the names are synonymous, but currently it is widely accepted by most that they belong to Hypholoma and not Psilocybe.
Current name: Hypholoma capnoides (Fr.) P. Kumm. 1871 http://www.indexfungorum.org/Names/NamesRecord.asp?RecordID=414014
'The rule of scientific nomenclature is that the first name to be published is valid (the senior synonym); any others are junior synonyms and should not be used.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synonym

Indeed. To me, this looks like a nice collection of fasciculare which is perhaps the most common mushroom in this region (southern Holland, Belgium).

I wouldn't trust the site you're quoting. Look what Hendrikx thinks the fairy ring mushroom looks like:

So which strain do you guys think it is capnoides or the fasiculare or are these names synomyms? If not do these strains contain a worth while eating amount of psilocybine?

They're not synonyms, but these species do resemble each other closely. You can easily tell them apart by taste. Fasciculare tastes very bitter, while capnoides tastes a bit sweet. Your find is 99% sure fasciculare, judging from general appearance.

Both species are inactive. Capnoides is edible, although I must stress that it's highly inadvisable (plain stupid) to eat any mushroom you're not 100% sure of the id.
If you're looking for psychedelic mushrooms, wait a bit until the weather cools down a bit and search for liberty caps (ps. semilanceata).

ok if they're inactive I'll throw them away. by inactive you mean they don't contain any psilocybine right?

Stropharia Cubensis, then? I better not see anyone using "Psilocybe Cubensis", anymore.

how does that have anything to do with this thread? I gave my reason for making the distinction between hypholoma and psilocybe in this case above.
you can call P. cubensis whatever you want, but:
Current Name: Psilocybe cubensis (Earle) Singer, Sydowia 2: 37 (1948) http://www.indexfungorum.org/Names/GSDspecies.asp?RecordID=290107
