Doubble birthing a cake before you fruit
    #4621900 - 09/05/05 10:28 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I'm trying something, not sure if its old or new but none the less here's my story. I was making little grow cups. 20oz cup with verm in the bottom a crumbled cake and more verm on top. anyhow i noticed that in one cup (plastic and dark blue but transparent) that once I say its first pin start a closer look revealed may pins growing on the side. I have birthed the cup and now have the best double end cased cake I've ever had.
What I'm Saying is that this is a great way to double end case right. put your case in a cup , BIRTH your BRF or whatever in the middle and then top it off with more casing mix. let it intubate a few days and RE-BIRTH it into your FC.
I'll Let you all know how it works out and if all these little pins go full grown.

other than an extra step in cleanliness, that sounds like a good idea to me. Depending on your findings and others suggestions/ideas, i might have to try that.

the only problem i see with this method is the energy the myc uses up during this regrowth in the cup. brf cakes have a limited amount of nutes to begin with and this would just use up some of the needed nutes for fruiting. double ending without this method will probably give you better results over the life of the cake.
best of luck

OK i understand that BRF cakes aren't the most nutritious but i assume you could use anything WBS, rye... what I was thinking is that when the cake is broken up and forced to rejoin itself .... doesn't the myc infrastructure get stronger? I know i read somewhere that when two myc clusters meet and join.... ie multiple inoculation points, the myc structure it forms is stronger and more hearty. I'd think that that would lead to better shrooms.

sure but at the same time it is using up the nutes available to it from the substrate. why not just spawn to some h poo or compost?
:peace:
