incubation question

pktek says 70 to 81 degrees. the temp now is at 90. is this too hot?

Yes, that is too hot. For fruiting, the temperature is good at about 75 degrees, though it can go down into the 60s, and you'll just have slower results. It can also go up to within a couple-three degrees of your incubation temperature, which should be about 83 degrees, and no more than 86 degrees.
So let's say:

Incubation: 83 + or - 3 degrees
Fruiting: 75 + or - 5 degrees

^ Those numbers are not absolute, of course (except the maximum of about 86 degrees). I mean: if, for example, the temperature drops down to 64 degrees at night during fruiting, you'll be fine.

They'll do just fine on a bookshelf at normal room temperature. Bacterial contamination is favored at higher temperatures, so it's a good tradeoff if you incubate at a lower temperature even if colonization takes a few extra days.
