Help!!!
    #4619654 - 09/04/05 05:34 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I went out of town for a few days and my casing look like this now. This first one has not flushed yet.

This one flushed once already, is it beyond repair?

What should I do?

Is there any visable mold or is that overlay? It's sorta hard to tell from the pictures. But I can definately see that they're dry. You can try to inject some H20 into the casing layer with a syringe if it's really dry, or you can simply harvest what you can and start anew. You can try a dunk as well...

There's mold on the one that's flushed already. How do you dunk a casing? Won't the casing mix fall off the casing?

Dispose of the infected substrate outdoors, far away from your other projects so you don't infect those as well. Stay upwind when tossing the infected substrate so the spores from the mold don't cover you also.

Do the existing fruits look healthy still? On the good substrate that is?

Yeah, they look good, I think it's just a bit dry right now. I think i'm going to put it into my other FC that's setup for the cakes. It's at about 99% RH.

You might want to avoid that. Cased substrates fruit better at a RH around 75%. I'd simply take a syringe or your misting bottle and would add some water weight to the casing layer. Avoid getting the pins wet. If you use your misting bottle, apply the H20 from it right close to the casing so you can avoid a direct misting of the fruit. Misting of primordia at this point is not a good thing until they grow to about an inch or 2.....

Alright, I buried the one that had flushed already in my garden. I pulled a bunch of the dead pins off before i buried it. I kicked up the humidity in the FC that the other casing was in and it seems to be back to normal, or getting there. Guess it was a bad time to have that happen since it was pinning.
