    #4619325 - 09/04/05 02:17 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

don't know if that other post was working cause it would not open for me so just in case I'll post again,,,My foaf's 2nd flush is not as good as he was hoping. He is wondering why they are coming up mostly from the sides of the tray and not the middle?Could it be because he didn't drunk it and just watered it?or could it be because of some thing else like a lack of nuts.well anyhow if anyone has a good way of getting a 2nd flush let me know so i can tell my foaf

well let me know what you guys think
Thanks

well you will have to ask your foaf if the casing material pulled away from the sides of the container. This usually happens after the first flush. can't really tell from the angle of that pick.

If light hits that material, mushies will start to grow causing side pinning. They can sometimes be a bit of a bitch to get off.

Usually all you have to do, after the first flush, is fill in the sections where the casing pulled away from the tray, with more casing material.

It looks like he has the sides of the tray covered with tape, so that will help keep light out.

IME, I have always had some side pinning, no matter what I do. I have my sides tapped, and casing material to fill in the shrinkage....hehe still happens to me sometimes.

I'm not sure why you don't have more growing in the center though. The pic looks like that casing is pretty moist.

I have found recently that my temp in fruiting chamber is 73 degrees if I put a casing in there at this temp the mycelium growth stops so I leave it in the incubator fora day or two after I see mycelium in valleys, this made me have very even pinning.
My casings all where looking like that a month ago.

this has made me think... that after the first flush.... 1. should you wash off you old casing and dunk, 2. then recase and place in the incubator until the myc breaks thru, 3. then cold shock and fruit??

dunking simply rehydrates the cake.

casing and placing in the incubator until the myc breaks allows for an even pinset.

coldshock tells it that it's time to pin/fruit.

i just don't remember seeing this iterated, but based on what i have read here this seems like the logical order????

Sure, but I'd leave out the cold shock. Especially after the first flush. You are not needing to shock it out of incubation temps since it's been in the fruiting chamber.

Many say that cold shocking isn't needed at all with cubes. That's debatable round here.

I never dunk a casing Ive never been able to do it without breaking up the substrate while doing it so I pressure cook 5 - 10 syringes of water and inject my casing with water in the bottom vermiculite layer and mist directly and heavily add some casing mix to patch it all up and fruit it again.
