Purposfuly stalling jars?
    #4618394 - 09/04/05 02:52 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I am not sure, but I think I may have heard somewhere that you can stall fully colonized jars by placing them in the fridge. Does anyone know if this is true?

I would like to hold off casing my WBS jars for a few days until my order for Hpoo gets here. I mean spawing. Not casing. Thats after.

Anyone know if this is true? I'd appreciate any comments, thanks!

Why would you want to "stall" them anyway. A Few days more of incubation wont hurt. The worst that I can see happen is in-vitro pinning. Woopidy doo. If that happens, just pic em off.

Can you dunk WBS after they colonize or is there no point since they already soaked for 24hours.

thought i'd ask while i was here.

Yes you can stall your jars in the fridge, just make sure that you dont get the temp below like 45F just to be safe, i prefer around 50F though.

And Fungus, the purpose is lets say you dont ahve room in your fruiting chambers at the moment and you have some jars that are fully colonised. Instead of letting them to continue colonising and putting energy into pinning invitro or having to deal with Myc. Piss. Just throw em in the fridge until you can birth them.

Bleed, yes its not a bad idea to dunk when you birth and before you colonise. I do this by just leaving the colonised WBS in the jar and filling with bottled water with a capful of H2O2 in the fridge.

Doing this in the fridge accomplishes 3 things for me at the same time. Replacing water that may have been used up during colonisation, cold shocking, and being in the fridge will slow down any type of bacterial growth that may occur. Some say that cold shocking is unecessary, but since your dunking you may as well cold shock it at the same time. Then birth and Case.

Just a word of caution not sure if most of you know this but refridgerators need to be set to 41F. to prevent spoilage, the myc will do fine if you set your fridge properly (not too cold). I find cold shocking stalls growth very little as far as slowed growth once it is warmed up again, IME it doesn't hurt a damn thing and does indeed have benefits.
