Tap H20 & Honey Water
    #461747 - 11/17/01 10:30 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

Ok well, My grandma's mother's uncles pet hippo accidentally used tap water (known to contain chlorine and other such bacteria killers) when doing the honey water tek. Now this hippo presumed that nothing would grow in this honey water having experienced problems in earlier PF style jars using tap water. However, the hippo was surprised when he went to dump the honey water this evening and Mycelium was growing (about 4 days since innoculation)! Now, the hippo's question is, should he just trash this honey water since tap water is likely to hurt his PF jars when innoculated with it, or should he just use it anyhows? On a sidenote he has some honey tek jars going also using distilled water (which is the way it should have been in the first place) that are a day behind but have not shown growth yet. Any input would be appreciated.

The tiny amount of chlorine in tap water is deactivated in the presence of organic matter (honey). The calcium in tap may even be beneficial.
