casing trays...should not let light trough?
    #4616776 - 09/03/05 05:36 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

hi

i've done my first casing very vell.. mushrooms are growing like hell, but strange thing is that mushrooms forms even on the side of the tray, and pushing out the plastic to grow up and to all directions.

i have seached the net but i didnt find any problem like this.

my idea was that the tray is too thick and lets to many light trough, casuing pinning on the side of the casing, or maybe there are not enough ligh in my chamber, and the mycelia doenst really know where is the surface?

after all i' ve made some cuts on the edges of the tray, bend down the sides a little to let mushrooms some space, and to be able to pick donw the shrooms on the side.

waht soul i do different next time?

all the best. mulan

You can put black duct tape or foil around your container to keep the light from penetrating the sides

See the foil lining the casing ^^^

You can do that, or you can buy opaque (non-see-thru) conatiners.

The advantage with using foil is that it shrinks with the casing..

I like clear containers with foil on the outside. This way if I think there may be a contam I can take it out of the foil and look.

But to tell the truth toward the end of my shroom growing I was just to lazy and left off the foil and the shrooms on the side were just a side benifit to me
