Question on horse poo
    #4616104 - 09/03/05 01:33 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Even though I live in Texas, horse poo is not the easiest thing to come by. You can't just hop over barbed wire fences and start snatching other people's poo. So I went to a local rodeo arena where I came across several mounds of dried up poo. The clumps are very grainy looking and remind me of alfalpha bricks I used to feed my hampsters as a kid. The poo has probably been sitting around for several weeks in the sun. Would this be ok to use? I've seen bags of compost and manure at hardware stores, but I've been told in the past that just about anything could be in those bags. Any sugestions on where to find good poo? Is fresh better? I would assume so but I don't know if it would actually make a difference. I simply cannot bring myself to buying horse crap online and paying the shipping and everything else.

Mike

Actually you have it all wrong. That is probably some really good poo you have on your hands there. You are looking for stuff that has been sitting for a long while and is really dry. When was the last rodeo? Because chances are if it was a long while ago that the best you got right there. You also could go around and look for some Horse stables and ask them if you can get some poo off them and I am sure they would be more then willing. Look for older poo that is not fresh and once you acquire it take it home and leach it. I am sure there is a good leaching tek out there somewhere on these forums. Though I fail you and cannot direct you in the best path to that. <3 and good poo hunting.

the longer the poo has been sitting out... getting rained on then drying out, the better it will be for what you want to use it for... also great for plants!! the more weathered the poo is the better off you are!
